Passionate about
revealing the intricacies of music to people of all ages, Mr. Rom joins THEO as
our Ensemble Director in August 2010. Because of his love for a variety of
music, he is expanding the Fine Arts department to include chamber ensembles of
all types as well as individual instruction.
THEO's Ensemble and
Orchestra will benefit from his studying with Mike Allen (Boulder Brass) at the
University of Colorado in Boulder where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music in
tuba performance. Studying under Sam Pilafian (Empire Brass, Travelin' Light),
he learned the art of making music and jazz. Jim Thornton (former "Pres. Own"
Marine Band Euphonium Soloist), another well known soloist, helped hone Mr.
Rom's understanding of interpreting the solo line.
Mr. Rom has toured
with The King's Brass for over 2 years. Prior to his time with The King's Brass,
he performed with Central City Opera Company, in Central City, Colorado, The
Colorado Ballet, Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, and the tuba quartet called
Eu-Tu. Mr. Rom also maintains a private studio teaching tuba, euphonium, and
trombone.
Coming to us from Stonebriar Church, Mr. Rom is excited for
the opportunity to work with students of all ages as a group, although he will
provide individual instruction times as well. Before working at Stonebriar
Community Church, he taught at Legacy Christian Academy, where he organized a
full private teaching department, including voice, piano, guitar, bass guitar,
percussion, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, clarinet, horn,
flute, and double reeds. He also taught a high-school music theory class which
will be offered at THEO as well this fall.
In spite of his busy
schedule, Mr. Rom prioritizes time to enjoy his wife, Rhonda, daughter Elise,
and his two long-haired dachshunds, Chaplin and Parker. He and his family
continue to worship at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco.
