Laura Martino is passionate about infusing her students with an energy and love for music! She excitedly contributes her eclectic range of interests and experiences to benefit others studying music at THEO. Laura graduated from UT Dallas in December 2010. She  earned Bachelors of Sciences degrees in Marketing and Business Administration. Currently, Laura is pursuing her MBA through UTD’s School of Management, with a concentration in IT. Laura’s biggest joy, however, is in teaching. She loves to use her creativity, experience and artistic talent to motivate young musicians in her community.

From an early age, Laura’s fascination with music led her to awesome mentors, performing opportunities, and friendships. After having excelled at the piano and as a first chair woodwind in her school bands, she discovered her gift and love for voice. Director Margaurite McCormick and the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio proved to be an invaluable influence early in Laura’s musical journey. Laura later studied classical voice under world-class soprano, Linda Poetschke at UTSA. Under Mrs. Poetschke’s mentorship, Laura gained in-depth understanding of the voice as a human instrument. More importantly, she gleaned and applied transcendental practice techniques that she emphasizes to her own students.

Performing with various groups such as the Youth Chorale, San Antonio Symphony and UT San Antonio Master Singers taught Laura so much about the commitment it takes to be successful as a performer. Opportunities included venues like the Majestic Theatre’s Tosca, and Carmina Burana, and Christmas POPS!, a KENS 5 News Special, and most recently Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco. These were just a few of the privileges that characterized Laura’s perspective. Laura was the first at Ronald Reagan High School to put together a Vocal Ensemble to compete and win state recognition! A Semi-Finalist at Baylor University’s NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), she also continued singing for UIL (University Interscholastic League) and TMEA (Texas Music Educator’s Association) competitions to achieve awards as a soloist.

Today, Laura enjoys performing at sporting and corporate events, teaching private lessons, recording, and leading worship at her church as a member in the A Cappella Praise Team. Directing THEO Ensemble is a new opportunity for Laura. She is committed to equipping students as independent musicians. Meanwhile, students will acquire the critical listening component necessary to play effectively as a group. Together, they will discover their unrealized musicality and friendships as they grow THEO’s Fine Arts community!
