Sign Language Background:
I started learning sign language at the age of nine and have been signing for twenty-one years in different settings. I was blessed with deaf friends as I was growing up and I became passionate about sharing their language with hearing people of all ages. I've especially had an ongoing passion for using sign language to express myself artistically through music. However, whether using sign language for music or conversational purposes, I've grown to appreciate how beautiful, enjoyable, and fulfilling this complex language can truly be.
Writing Background:
I have enjoyed writing all my life and was blessed to marry a man who not only shares my enthusiasm for writing, but who also received a book contract from a publishing company. As a result of being around my husband's writing and publishing process, I have learned a tremendous deal and have enjoyed teaching others how to write more creatively and effectively.
Further Educational Background:
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in May of 2000 at the University of New Mexico. I graduated summa cum laude and had departmental honors. I received a Minor in Portuguese. In July of 2002, I graduated with my Master of Arts in Spanish Linguistics from the same university. I have taught Spanish at the college level and worked for two years as an educational assistant in an elementary school where I dealt with children who were emotionally disturbed and learning disabled.
