Knitting

Grades: 7 - 12

Meets:  Tuesday 3:00 - 4:00

Class Description: This hands-on class is designed for the beginner but all skill levels are welcome.  It introduces the student to basic knitting skills including casting on, knitting, purling and reading a pattern. These basic skills are taught and practiced throughout the semester. We will begin with some basic blocks to learn and practice skills and then move on hats, scarves, and other projects.  Projects will be focused on items that be useful to the student or can easily be gifted. 

Minimum/Maximum number of students: 3/6

Homework: Practice.  Progress will be expected each week.

Cost:  $35 per month/$20 materials fee

Supplies that the students should bring to class: 

Required:   

• Kids Knitting by Melanie Falick  ISBN: 1-885183-76-
• Students will be building a “kit” of supplies as their skills progress.  They should begin their kit with a pair of scissors and a yarn needle.  A bag to carry their work in is also helpful.

Helpful but not required:

• Kids Knitting by Melanie Falick  ISBN: 1-885183-76-3
• Teacher will provide: first set of needles (circular) and yarn, patterns.
• Additional items for their  “kit” of supplies to be added as needed: crochet hook, tape measure, 6’ ruler, stitch markers, row counter (optional).
