Mapping the World by Heart

Meets:  Tuesday 3:00 - 4:00

Class Description: Mapping the World by Heart is an innovative approach to learning geography and totally hands on. The students will be able to map from memory the entire would at the end of the class.    We will learn about different map projections, Latitude and Longitude - hint - "Lat is Fat ", we will learn the differences between topo maps, contour maps, thematic maps, Mercator projections, equirectangular projections, but mostly we will be learning  all of the countries, capitals, oceans, rivers and other significant geological features in the world.  The students will be making lots and lots of maps  and you will be totally amazed at how much they have learned about geography in just one year.  We will study the Western Hemisphere in the Fall as it is easier and most people are more comfortable with it and the Eastern Hemisphere in the Spring.   If you want to learn the world  - join us for Mapping the World by Heart!

Minimum/Maximum number of students: 5/8

Homework: This course will take about 2 hours of homework a week, and will consist of drawing maps! labeling maps! and learning countries and capitals. 

Cost:  $45/mo.  Supply fee of $18 per semester.
