Class Description: This
English class provides an integrated learning system using
Total Language Plus curriculum that focuses on thinking and
communication skills using literature as a base. Reading four books per year, students will
focus on: spelling, vocabulary, reading comprehension, basic grammar,
punctuation, and writing. The particular titles are chosen to be fun and
interesting, as well as challenge students to think well. Upon the
completion of each book, a writing assignment will be given, incorporating some
of the basic Institute for Excellence in
Writing skills. Titles to be read are:

Prerequisites:
None
Maximum number of students: 12
Homework:
2-3 hours
per week (Meeting only one hour per week, the success of this class rests upon
the student’s diligence to complete all assigned homework.)
Cost:
$45 per month, $50 one time fee for student workbooks (teacher will purchase)
and handouts
Supplies students are expected to always bring to class:
3 ring binder with notebook paper, set of dividers, set of 3x5 index cards, book

Books:
Literature books may be purchased anywhere (suggest
Amazon.com). No specific editions are
required. It is strongly advised,
however, that all four titles be purchased
before class begins.
“I don’t have the book yet,” will not be an accepted excuse for late
homework, resulting in a lower grade.
