Why does the
study of Latin still have value? 1) it enables us to read what is written
in Latin; 2) it increases our understanding of English grammar by showing it in
the light of very logical and clear Latin grammar; 3) it aids in the study of
other languages because it is the origin of the Romance languages and has
a grammar structure parallel to other Indo-European languages; 4) it enriches
our own English vocabularies because of the multitude of words that have come
into our language from Latin.
Latin 2 will continue building vocabulary as we
study English derivatives and deepening the students knowledge of English
grammar as we build on the basic grammar concepts that were studied in Latin
1.We will also continue our study of Roman history as we translate passages from
Caesar, Cicero, and other famous Roman authors. Many passages from the
Latin Vulgate will be translated in this course.
