Study Skills and Vocabulary

Meets:  Thursday  2:45 – 4:00

Class Description: 
Whether you’re in middle school, high school or college, you must develop strong study skills to excel.  With time and effort, you will come out of this class a better student, prepared to succeed in future content classes. 

Join us in this year-long class as we study the following topics and more:

·         Time management

·         Goal setting

·         Learning styles

·         Critical reading skills

·         Note-taking

·         Outlining

·         Test-taking skills

·         Memory skills

·         Study methods

·         Organizing a writing project

·         Basic logic skills and drills

·         Using study tools

·         Active listening

·         Organizing a long-range project

·         Using the computer to enhance study skills

·         Vocabulary building using Greek and Latin roots

Prerequisites: None

Maximum number of students: 16

Homework: 2 – 3 hours weekly

Cost:  $50 monthly September through May

Supplies:  Blank index cards, notebook paper, thick and fine tipped markers, 2 or 3” notebook to hold your records and supplies

Supply Fee:$20/year (for copies, 3-ring binder with dividers and hand-outs, lesson plan journals, fee to buy DVD’s I’ll use in class)
