Class Description: CIS
gives students a working knowledge of computers and prepares them to be
proficient in business applications using Microsoft Word, MS Excel and MS
Powerpoint. This course places an emphasis on advanced word processing skills
and multimedia presentations necessary to compete in today’s growing
technological environment in the classroom, college and the job market.
Skills learned will be utilized in “real world” homework projects such as bifold
and trifold brochures, resumes, table embedded spreadsheets, etc. Skills will
include desktop publishing and design principles, mail merge, photos/graphic
manipulation and animation, tables and graphs, and much more. The powerpoint
unit will conclude with an oral presentation of the student’s powerpoint
project. CIS fulfills the TX technology requirement.
Prerequisites: Must have laptop to bring to class. MUST have Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint. Note: Will give direction in both MS 2003 and MS 2007. Macs are welcome and Mac MS versions are close to MS 2003/7 but I don’t specifically teach to Macs.
Number of students: Minimu of 4, Maximum of 15
Homework: Approximately 1-3 hours a week. (PowerPoint unit will be the higher end)
Cost: $50 per month
Supplies that the students should bring to class: There is no textbook required for this class. Other supplies include: laptop for class, section in notebook to file weekly class handouts and graded assignments. Pen or pencil
