
Fiction Writing

Grades: 9 - 12
Meets: Monday 2:00 - 3:00
Class Description: Fiction Writing will cover plot, point of view, character, setting and dialogue. Weekly homework will focus on each element of fiction writing to work towards mastery of fiction writing skills. A larger work of fiction will be due at semester's end, to give students practice in applying what they are learning. Students will be held to reasonabale standards of good grammar and appropriate subject matter. Writing fiction helps students to better analyze the fiction they are asked to evaluate in other coursework. If your teen is a writer and needs an academic outlet for his or her talent, this is the right class. Focused creativity will be stressed; inventiveness encouraged.
Prerequisites: Comfortable with writing paragraphs, desire to write fiction.
Maximum number of students: 15
Homework: Weekly assignements will take 2+ hours Weekly quizzes on class content and minimal outside reading. Final project will require time throughout the semester.
Cost: $45 Monthly fee; $15 One-time materials fee.
