Instrumental Ensemble
Teacher: Cindy Eckhoff
Grades: 6 - 12
Meets: Wednesday
Class Description:
This group is an instrumental ensemble composed of woodwind, brass, string and percussion instruments. We will focus on learning to play as a group and in small ensembles. We will also touch on conducting, music history, performance techniques, theory and anything else interesting I come up with. Approximately 2 concerts will be planned for the each semester. We also play at football games for area homeschool teams. We have occasional social times as well and have lots of fun in general. Grading is based on weekly practice cards, playing tests, written tests, participation and concert attendance. Students are sometimes assigned projects that enhance the music we are learning. An optional summer camp is offered
Prerequisites: Students must already play an instrument.
Homework: 30 minutes of practice is required each day, 5 days a week, not including our rehearsal time.
Supplies: Each student needs to bring his/her instrument, supplies (reeds, cleaning swab, etc.), music, music stand and pencil to class.
Performance Attire: For football and basketball games, we wear at THEO t-shirt and khaki pants or skirt. For concert performances, we wear a white dress shirt or blouse and black pants or skirt – no jeans, no tennis shoes.
Maximum number of students: unlimited. Parents who play are also welcome to join us at no cost.
Cost per student: $40 per month. There will be a family discount for those with more than one child who participates in the class. There is a supply fee of $40 per year per family to cover the cost of music, equipment and other necessities.
Please note: A meeting for parents and students will be held at our regular location one week before fall classes start.
