
Beginning Brass & Woodwinds

Class Description:
This class is designed to teach beginning students to play the flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone or tuba. Students will be taught the basics of instrumental music including instrument care and maintenance, proper technique, reading music notes and rhythm, playing in an ensemble and expression. Grading is based on weekly practice cards, playing tests, written tests, class participation and performance attendance.

Maximum number of students that you will allow to take this class: 10
Cost per student (numeric only): $30 per month. There will be a family discount for those with more than one child who participates in the class. There is also a supply fee of $10 per semester to cover the cost of additional music, equipment and other necessities.
Homework: 30 minutes of practice is required each day, 5 days a week, not including our class time.
Textbooks: Each student will need to purchase Standard of Excellence – Book 1 by Bruce Pearson for their specific instrument. This book may be purchased at many local music stores and is widely available online. The cost is approximately $7.
Supplies that the students should bring to class: Each student needs to provide his/her own instrument (see teacher for details). Students need to bring instrument, music, music stand, spiral notebook and pencil to class. A tuner/metronome is highly recommended. There will also be a supply fee of $10 per semester to cover the cost of additional music, equipment and other necessities.
