Apologia Physics - CLOSED
Teacher: Michelle Miller
Grades: 9 - 12
Meets: T/Th 2008 Fall Session Closed
Class Description: Physics is not hard - it's just different! Apologia Physics provides an introduction to basic high school physics concepts. The topics covered include: one and two dimensional motion, Newton's Laws and applications, uniform circular motion, gravity, work and energy, momentum, periodic motion, waves, optics, electrostatics, electrodynamics, electrical circuits, and magnetism. All labs will be completed in class.
We will complete the entire text as well as some additional homework problems. Each module will take two weeks and the test for each module will be given in class. The students will also have opportunities to make class presentations. NOTE: We will be using the FIRST EDITION of the text.
Prerequisites: Completion of Algebra II is preferred, but completion of a course with basic trigonometry is usually sufficient. Much time will be spent in class reinforcing and making applications of the math previously learned, but the student should be comfortable with the use of equations and finding unknown values.
Maximum number of students that you will allow to take this class: 12
Cost per student (numeric only): $75 per month
Homework: 2 - 3 hours per week
Supplies that the students should bring to class: Each Student will need Apologia’s text Exploring Creation with Physics, 1st Edition, pencils, loose leaf paper, scientific calculator (TI-83 is recommended, but others are acceptable), and a spiral notebook for keeping class notes organized. An answer key is not needed and the requirements for the Lab Book will be explained at the first class meeting.
