Starting Points: Where Our Thinking Begins by David Quine (completed in one year)
Teacher: Mary Bell and Beverly Stewart
Mary Bell will be teaching the Wednesday 1-year Starting Points Class
Beverly Stewart will be teaching the Friday Year 2 of Starting Points in 2-years.
Grades: 8 -12
Please Note: If you began the 2-year program, the second year will be taught by Beverly Stewart and will meet on Friday. The meeting dates for this class are:
Fall: August 29 through October 31 (ten weeks)
Spring: January 9 through March 13 (ten weeks)
Class Description: A 36-week study in which we will study seven basic world view questions through a study of theology, literature, apologetics and American History as outlined in David Quine's Starting Points. Students will develop a written description of their own world views and will begin learning to identify the world views of others. Worth 3 high school credits: Bible, Literature, American History. See www.cornerstonecurriculum.com for in-depth description of the curriculum.
Does the class meet a second day of the week? No
Prerequisites: Strong reading and writing skills--a recent essay is required with application, as a sample of your own writing skills.
Maximum number of students that you will allow to take this class: 10
Cost per student (numeric only): $50 per month
Homework: Heavy homework each week with some major writing assignments. In the Starting Points introduction (p. 10) David Quine says to expect to spend 1 to 2 hours per day on homework. This is no exaggeration and your schedule should be planned accordingly.
Supplies that the students should bring to class: highlighters, paper, pencil or pen, and the Starting Points Books available from Cornerstone Curriculum (usually a sale in the spring) or Christian Book Distributors or Amazon. We will use all books listed in Starting Points Curriculum list.
