Total Language Plus - Jr. High

Class Description: This English class provides an integrated learning system that focuses on thinking and communication skills using literature as a base.  Using several books per year, students will focus on :  spelling, vocabulary, reading comprehension, listening skills (dictation), grammar, punctuation, writing, analytical and critical thinking.  The particular titles were chosen to be fun and interesting, as well as challenge students to think well.  Upon the completion of each book, a writing assignment will be given, incorporating some of the basic Institute for Excellence in Writing skills. Titles to be read are: 

•  Carry On, Mr. Bowditch

•  Where the Red Fern Grows

•  The Bronze Bow

•  The Witch of Blackbird Pond

Prerequisites: None

Maximum number of students: 12

Homework: 2-3 hours per week

Cost:  $40 per month, $34 for students workbooks ($8.50 per title), titles may be purchased or checked out from the library

Supplies that the students should bring to class:  3 ring binder, notebook paper, set of 3x5 index cards, dictionary and thesaurus
