Jr. High Creative Writing Class

Teacher: Sarah J. Horn

Grades:  6-8

Meets: Thursday

Class Description:

Does your child enjoy writing?

Does your child hate writing?

Is your child interested in writing, yet afraid to try?

Does your child need a quick writing credit?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the perfect class for your child's writing needs!  The goal for this class is to provide all students from different writing backgrounds with the knowledge and inspiration to write short and/or long stories of their choosing.  We will be using a textbook entitled Learn to Write the Novel Way by Carole Thaxton.

There will be quiet writing activities as well as fun writing activities in class which will be geared towards helping students develop their stories.  Students will be encouraged to share their ideas with each other during the writing process.

Some writing goals to bear in mind are:

  1. Who is your intended audience (children, young teenagers, family, friends, large communities, small communities, etc.)?

  2. What are the emotions you wish to invoke in your readers (sadness, hope, concern, relief, anger, awareness, etc.)?

  3. What genre do you need to write in order to invoke the proper emotions (suspense, Biblical, inspriational, educational, fiction, non-fiction, short story, long story, newspaper or magazine article, novel, yearbook, etc.)?

Students will be encouraged to share material they have already written or are in the process of writing.
